Commercial Landscape Development (€500,000 to €1,000,000)
Coopers Cross Residential is part of a wider mixed-use development in Dublin 1. It was designed by Gillespies (Landscape Architects) and the primary contractor was John Sisk and Sons. The client brief for the scheme was to set a new benchmark in the design, construction and ongoing management of outdoor urban space in Ireland. The scheme features extensively planted and furnished courtyards, roof gardens, private garden spaces, a green roof, street planting, bespoke furniture and a pocket park. You can view the project extents via Google Earth map.
Our scope included the procurement, supply, and installation of planters, soil, irrigation, furniture, artificial grass and all soft landscape elements. The latter included trees, shrubs, herbaceous plants, ground cover, sedum, turfing, and flowering bulbs. Paved and resin surfaces were installed by other contractors. Details of the project complexity are communicated in the accompanying drawing pack. As is evident, the attention to detail and level of expectation in terms of quality and finish is unmatched in an Irish context.
The delivery of Coopers Cross Residential demanded a wide range of skills from all levels of the O’Brien’s. These covered measurement, quantity surveying, pricing, negotiation, value engineering, budgeting, procurement, planning, supply, contract, and health and safety management, planning, resourcing, reporting, cranage, installation, variation, aftercare, and maintenance. The project required this and more and within the confines of a limited time frame for installation in restricted space while coordinating with the site team and 10-15 contractors occupying the same space.
There were limited unforeseen events and challenges due to the quality of planning and site coordination between contractors. While we have delivered larger, more complex projects, we are submitting Coopers Cross Residential as it represents and exemplar in design, project management and modern landscape installation.
Judges’ Comments:
“Excellent execution of the design. A high level of professionalism that is exhibited in the high standard of finish.”
“A top class project delivering so many elements over several levels. The challenges of delivering a project of such high standards on a live and construction site can only have been exaggerated by the fact that it was in the centre of Dublin city.”
